After yesterday announcement that Warner Brothers to drop support of HD DVD format, more news to come today – rumors are that Paramount and DreamWorks Animation are to follow.

Looking at original list of supporters for HD-DVD there is not much left… Marketing misfire? Or just a fact that “Blu-ray discs are more expensive, but hold more data—there, that’s all.”

And now HD-DVD team is not happy at all.

Will Microsoft release Blu-Ray DVD for XBox now? Back in 2006 it was said that “a Blu-ray Xbox 360 peripheral could appear for the system if the need arises”. Did time came? With current DVD-drive for XBox available it should not be to hard to provide option for another external DVD. Smart original design or backup plan?

Long Live the King! Not much alive though…

It was a triumph of exclusivity agreements of the type Microsoft used to gain dominance in PC operating systems. Sony had more money to use to buy support than Toshiba.

HD-DVD was promoted exclusively with XBox 360. Doesn’t help much though. Nintendo being in the same market is yet to decide where to go… Would it change a situation if they are to choose HD?

I don’t they are going to choose either side, but if they did and somehow they were able to do it without increasing the price of the Wii, yeah, it would change everything. They sell more Wii’s in two months than either Hi-def format has sold in players to date, IIRC.
