"Nintendo being in the same market is yet to decide where to go… Would it change a situation if they are to choose HD?"
I don't they are going to choose either side, but if they did and somehow they were able to do it without increasing the price of the Wii, yeah, it would change everything. They sell more Wii's in two months than either Hi-def format has sold in players to date, IIRC.

HD-DVD was promoted exclusively with XBox 360. Doesn't help much though. Nintendo being in the same market is yet to decide where to go... Would it change a situation if they are to choose HD?

It was a triumph of exclusivity agreements of the type Microsoft used to gain dominance in PC operating systems. Sony had more money to use to buy support than Toshiba.
