Movie `Cars` and route 66

I think ‘Cars’ became one of the pearls in Pixar animation studio collection. But there is sad story behind it. First, I saw those ghost towns when was driving upstate North California. You can find those empty or half empty places on the way up. Then I took a trip from California all way to Wisconsin… You can find few places on the road which will remind you Radiator Spring from the movie… Do you want to hear more about history behind the movie – very nice site telling a story of route 66 and the movie Cars. And there is another one about route 66 in Arizona.

Delphi 2006 vanished from taskbar

Something I have noticed when working with Delphi 2006… at some point it stops being shown in taskbar… nice… IDE is still here, works and all but only way to go back to it is to use Alt+TAB. Strangely enough if you minimize/maximize it once, everything starts to work again until next time… I suspect that this is side effect of having Delphi 2007 on the same machine since it only started to happen after it has been installed and I have no problem with it working properly in my VCP session. It is more of inconvenience, but just something to be aware of, I guess

CodeGear – new web-site look and feel

Ok, it has been few weeks since CodeGear team has released a new version of the company’s web-site. You can easily see that this event did not go through unnoticed by the community – people are blogging, discussing in CodeGear newsgroup… Some find it great, some find it not that great… Well, can we or should we judge every step team is going through? I do not think it is fair to criticize every move. One thing for sure – CodeGear goes further away from Borland, making greater distance between two. Few highlights I do like: Did you notice that Developer Network web-site is now using a whole browser width allowing you to have more information visible? Themes for different sections are Read more

Borland is moving to Austin, Texas

Funny, how much you can miss these days just by going on vacation and staying away from the news.  Hm… The News of the past two weeks is that Borland is moving to Texas. Now exactly or not just yet, though. For now it is just administrative stuff. And nothing is mentioned about CodeGear. Per Nick’s comment in NG, CG is not moving and Allen did emphasize on this in his blog. Ok, parent moving for retirement when kid is continuing to have fun on campus. It is understandable decision by Borland to cut costs and maximize profits, since things in Austin are cheaper then in Silicon Valley. Why CG did not do it in the first place while deciding their future? Smaller company, smaller budget. Read more

CodeGear and new CEO

Almost missed it, but thanks to all bloggers, it did not go unnoticed. What can I say… Whops… Strange, suspicious, unclear, unpredicted, not well pushed. As others said – to Jim Douglas – we need your blog and it supposes to be online last night!!! Recent actions by CodeGear team does put some new standards in place and one of them is openness to community. We are waiting, we want to know you. Follow-up: and here he started
