Delphi for PHP. Qooxdoo. Part 1

Today’s topic is Qooxdoo library Someone called it VCL for JS. It is almost true. Almost… VCL is nothing without IDE and property editors. But… it is a great library/framework. “qooxdoo is one of the most comprehensive and innovative Open Source AJAX frameworks. It is a multipurpose framework that includes support for professional JavaScript development, a state-of-the-art GUI toolkit and high-level client-server communication.” My main responsibility was to wrap controls from “Q” library as PHP and in Delphi way. Sometimes it was easy, sometimes require some digging. Primary location for library source, examples and help is here. If you are to work in any way with components from VCL for PHP included in DFPHP and to do some adjustments or understand Read more…

Delphi for PHP. First hand knowledge. What is it all about?

Ok, there is a little bit of time to talk about inside of Delphi. As you could see from the post I have mentioned last time there is really two part of the product you need to look at: one you are paying for and one which come for free. Price of the package is a price of IDE itself, with all native property editors, object inspector, Editor, etc… all this what makes an editor very useful and allow product to stand up among competitors. If you ever used Delphi from CodeGear before you will find yourself in very comfortable situation – everything you know and familiar is here. No need to learn new shortcuts, menus, GUI elements. If you Read more…

Delphi for PHP. First hand knowledge. The Beginning

This was exciting two months… Wow, I was working for CodeGear as part of Astro project – code name for Delphi for PHP announced recently. Now I can talk about it and what should I start with? I am a Delphi developer with over 15 years of experience working with Delphi/Pascal. And I am PHP developer with over 8 years of experience.  So I can see from both sides and tell that it is a big jump for PHP world as Delphi 1 was for Pascal users. What it is all about? CodeGear gives PHP programmers a RAD IDE which allows them not only type code but do a true RAD development. Visually with simple click… Isn’t it great?!!!!! What is Delphi for PHP is inside? Great editor, great libraries, Read more…

Fun: Boss is always right or rules of management

Below are some facts known for ages. They are true and should be respected. Wise Old Sayings or Rules of Management: The Boss is always right! If, in your lamentable ignorance, you fail to grasp the truth, fear not; return to rule 1. Or… If the Boss is wrong, refer to rule 1. If you enter the Boss’s office with an idea of your own, you must leave the office with the Boss’s ideas. The Boss does not sleep. He rests. The Boss is never late. He is just delayed elsewhere. The Boss never leaves his work; his attention is just required elsewhere The Boss does not read the paper in the office. He studies. Few recent additions: by JZ Richard, by Read more…

New CodeGear (updated)

In the recent weeks there were several posts in the press and blogs by team members in regard of the future of CodeGear as a company and Delphi as a product. I think best post so far was one by Brendon Chase in Builder.au. I also will encourage you to read Allen’s Blog. What do we see so far? At first it was a surprise moment for everybody that Borland did decide to keep CG as subsidiary. And from all available information it was a surprise for everybody including CG team. But good thing, CG is now on their own – child stepping out of the parents house – everything is new and unknown, one have to go and learn how Read more…

CodeGear and the mothership

It was said recently that Borland is now playing a role of this “investor” we were looking for last 9 months. I think Borland was surprised with outcome of the spin off. At the end, is it good for CodeGear? yes, it is (looking at final result). Being an investor Borland is expecting “predictable profitability stream” (see interview Mike Hulme, Borland’s senior director of product marketing with The Register). Hm, good thing it is, don’t you think? This should show: to the future potential investors that CG is profitable business as CG team was saying all along and might be, just might be, at some point it can became fully independent from Borland to Borland that if business is not “milked” Read more…
